Dr. Saad Saad: A Father’s Wisdom

Dr. Saad Saad was born in Palestine, but his family was forced to move to Kuwait. His father was able to gain employment due to his experience in the oil industry. Growing up, Dr. Saad’s father spent much of his time telling him that in order to become successful he needed a good education.

Dr. Saad would realize just how correct his father was. When he was in high school, he wanted to earn some extra money, so he went with his brother to a job site to do manual work. It was the summertime in Kuwait and extremely hot.

Not too long after he started working, he came down with a heat stroke. He woke up and realized that a physical job did not suit him and that his father had been right about him achieving a great education. He also vowed to never work a day in the hot sun again. He discovered that the only people who worked in air conditioning in Kuwait at that time were surgeons in an operation room. He set his mind then that he would work hard to become a pediatric surgeon.

Dr. Saad Saad would later move to the United States. He set his mind to achieving the status of a US Board Certified pediatric doctor, an extremely high achievement. He was the only doctor of his caliber in the United States at that time who was fluent in Arabic and English.

This made him the top pick to get hired by Saudi Arabia’s Royal family to be the personal doctor for the children. He was also the doctor who was tasked to perform extremely difficult surgeries to any child in Saudi Arabia who required serious medical treatment. He held this prestigious position until he returned to the US in 1989.
